He called it "vampire city". I was talking with a friend who lives in one of the once great manufacturing cities of the Midwest and that' what he called the town he lives in.
Vampire city...not because of the grim landscape of gutted buildings engulfing the country. Not because of the jobs that have been leached from our once proud "rust belt". No. He called it that because when he went late at night to the gas station, there were 16 and 17 year olds there selling crack.
What does that have to do with the TPP you might ask? Well, I would ask, I would ask, how can we allow yet another "agreement" that will outsource even more jobs. I ask what kind of future we are offering these kids...and their families? How can they be secure in knowing that they will be able to get a good job, one that pays well and that will be there for them tomorrow and the next day. And not "carried away".
We all know that NAFTA cost us big in jobs...one estimate is about 800,000, another a million. The TPP has been called NAFTA on steroids and it provides incentives to outsource many more jobs. Enough. Just damned enough. I vehemently oppose the TPP in which I am joined by hundreds of unions, environmental groups, human rights advocates and many prominent political voices including Senator Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Sherrod Brown.
I urge you to call your representative who should be in your district this week...and let them know your opinion. As I’m sure everyone knows if you want to find out more about this agreement, there are many articles and sites to help you. This link will help you find your rep... www.contactingthecongress.org/...If they are a no on the TPP, please thank them and if they are in favor of the TPP, please voice your thoughts..Personally I plan to do whatever I can to make sure that whoever supports this will be counting the days till they are ousted.
